Assistant Organizer for 2008 + 2009 Historic Homes Tours

As a homeowner and resident in a Historic District,  I am committed to preserving the beauty and history of New Mexican homes and architecture.   I renovated my second 100 year old historic home six years ago, and my third just last year.  This experience gave me an appreciation for the unique history of New Mexico as well as a basic understanding of zoning, planning, and historic district regulations.

I am an active member of the Huning Highland Historic District Association, as well as The Albuquerque Conservation Association (TACA), and the New Mexico Archaeological Society.  I proudly serve the city as a member of the Edo/UCOZ Architectural Review Committee.

taca

The Albuquerque Conservation Association:
To Preserve Yesterday, Today, For Tomorrow

After the tragic loss of the Alvarado Hotel in 1970, concerned citizens banded together to form The Albuquerque Conservation Association (TACA) . Our goals are to conserve the historic built environment and Albuquerque's open space. The organization endeavors to keep the public informed on issues that relate to conservation.

Horn Service Station – Current project, TACA office, and Huning Highlands Community Center

One of the current projects is the restoration of the former Horn Service Station at 601 Coal SE that was donated to the group by HB and Lucille Horn. The space is used as the TACA office and the Huning Highlands Historic District neighborhood community center.

El Vado Motel - Concerned Citizens Rally to Save this historic Route 66 Motel

TACA took an active role during the extended hearings to preserve the historic El Vado Motel which is the first motel on the east side of the Rio Grande. This complex was threatened by demolition and in fill development. The city purchased the motel and will be working to find the right developer who is willing to preserve the character of the buildings which are considered to be the most interesting historic motel complex in Albuquerque on Central Avenue.

Historic Albuquerque: an Illustrated History

TACA board members Carleen Lazzell and Melissa Payne coauthored the book "Historic Albuquerque: an Illustrated History" which is a comprehensive story of the development our city. The book is available in the city library system or in the UNM Zimmerman Library. To obtain a personal copy please contact TACA president Ann Carson 242-1143, TACA Office: 601 Coal SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102
